The First and Second Editions of N. V. Gogol’s Novel "Taras Bulba"

Comparative method is at the basis of this work. Changes of the historian - household character due to the transformation of the contents of the novel, increase in its volume, and also stylistics ponovleniye are considered. Besides, antique and Christian sources of the novel at the description of physiology of the lost / dead soldier are revealed. Key words: N.V. The Problem of Translating the Vocabulary of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s Novel “Poor People” into the Greek Language
Petrozavodsk State University, auandrianova@yandex.ruAnnotation: The article is devoted to the problems of translation the vocabulary of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s novel “Poor People” into the Modern Greek language. The main research method is the comprehensive analysis of the original and translated texts, including linguistic approach to the both texts. The vocabulary of the novel as a great sociocultural layer of the 19th century and the transfer of specific words into the Modern Greek language are investigated for the first time. A few extracts were selected for the analysis pointing at the peculiarities of specific vocabulary translation. The results of this study lead to the conclusion of A. Sarandopoulos’ work as one of the strategies, in which the translator is trying to translate literally the text of the widely known Russian classical writer into the other language, preserving the meaning of lexical units. The Element of Water in the Artistic Worldview of A. Kuprin (on the Material of Short Stories Written in 1906-1913)
Petrozavodsk State University, gagarina.333@mail.ruAnnotation: The article reveals the specifics and functions of water images and landscapes in the artistic worldview of A. I. Kuprin. The material for the research is the short stories of 1906-1913-s (Gambrinus, The River of Life, Garnet Bracelet, Listrigons and others). The analysis has shown that the lexical line of images concerning water (‘sea’, ‘ocean’, ‘river’, ‘spring’, ‘rain’, ‘mist’, ‘tears’) is very wide. We have also discovered that the most frequent and semantically rich natural image is the image of the sea. The comparative analysis of the series "Listrigons" and the story "Gambrinus" showed that the image of the sea plays the key role in the creation of the vertical of art space. The semantics of water images in a number of works dates back to Slavic mythology, for example, the cleaning function of rain in "Listrigon" and tears in "Garnet Bracelet". We have concluded that water images in Kuprin’s stories play background, psychological, plot, symbolic, axiological roles, and are semantically important symbols of dramatic relationships of a human and the world, and are the means of expressing the writer’s point of view. The Image of Island in Y. Kazakov's proze
Petrozavodsk State University, starota_411@mail.ruAnnotation: The article analyses the specifics of the image of island in Y. Kazakov's proze. It gives some statistics and reveals a number of stories and texts where this image appears or the whole «island plot» takes place. The short story «On the Island» (1958) is investigated in details. Particularly, it shows that Kazakov’s island is frequently opposed to the other world space. The main features of the image — otherness, distance, contrast, etc. – are reflected in the characters of the personages. The Problem of Memory in A. Artsibushev's Novel “The Doors of Charity”
Petrozavodsk State University, konsanih@gmail.comAnnotation: The article is devoted to the little investigated problem of memory in A. Artsibushev’s novel “The Doors of Charity”. The book is full of private reminiscences of the author who having become a Gulag prisoner was able to transform his every-day and existential experience in the autobiographical novel. Three plots of recollections – I, Family and GULAG can be singled out in the novel. Memory plays a tremendous role, the knowledge and comprehension of the past helps the author to reveal the moral, cultural and ethical values and antivalues of his time, Gulag generation. The autobiographical memory is organized according to the sense principle. It simultaneously cooperates with the private experience of the author and historical reality of the 1920-1960-s. Poetics of the Сity in A. Makushinskii’s Novel "The Сity in the Valley"
Petrozavodsk State University, bla5899@yandex.ruAnnotation: The article attempts to study the characteristics of the poetics of the city of A. Makushinskii’s novel “The City in the Valley”. Some principles of genetic, functional, geopoetic analysis of the literary text were used as a methodological basis. It was ascertained that the idea of the novel went back to the earlier A. Makushinskii’s essay “Three Days in Yelets”. Examining thoroughly the key characteristics of the urban area in the novel “The City in the Valley” and comparing them with the characteristics described in the essay, the author of the article reveals how they go back genetically to the real Russian Yelets, but are represented in the novel from another creative point of view with other semantic, formal and functional features. The author of the article comes to the conclusion that A. Makushinskii through the image of the city wanted to demonstrate the tragedy of the Great Patriotic War and the history of Russia at that period of time. Key words: A.A.
