HOMER AND QUINTUS SMYRNAEUS: THE EPIC CROSS OF EPOCHES
Lobachevsky State University, haguro62@gmail.comAnnotation: The article describes the peculiarities of Quintus’s poem ‘Posthomerica’ towards his literary predecessor – Homer. The text inherits metrical, stylistic, lexical features of ‘Iliad’ and ‘Odyssey’, although some foreign for epic style elements present (such as didactics of stoic philosophy, prevailing individual element in the nature of characters’ action, tendency to depict mostly humans’ world, ect). Very often the narration is clarified in the passages, where Homer’s texts is not so exact, that gives an opportunity to speak of literary agonism, caused by the influence of the Second Sophistics. Generally, the Quintus’s poem ‘Posthomerica’ is not only a skilful stylization, but also an independent artwork, unique character of which is determined by listed facts. DESCRIPTIVE VERBAL-NOMINAL EXPRESSIONS IN ANTIENT GREEK, RUSSIAN AND ENGLISH: STRUCTURE, SEMANTICS, TRANSLATION (BASED ON THE GOSPEL OF JOHN)
the BSU, alina.tihonovich@gmail.comAnnotation: In the work a group of descriptive verbal-nominal expressions of evangelical origin in the Russian Synodal translation of 1876, the English translation (New King James Version 1982) and the original Greek text of the Gospel of John as well as the features of functioning and translation into Russian and English of equal descriptive verbal-nominal expressions were searched for. The work carried out the comparative analysis of translation into Russian and English of descriptive verbal-nominal expressions, gave the classification of descriptive verbal-nominal expressions according to the methods of their translation and gave the interpretation of the reasons for the discrepancy between the translations and the original text. The work can be useful in studying the ancient Greek language, Russian and English phraseology as well as for the Bible societies when working on modern translations of the Gospel. Poetic of space in the story of Y. Kazakov "Blue and green"
Petrsu, aliona.dmitruk@yandex.ruAnnotation: The article is devoted to the study of the peculiarities of the artistic space in the story of Y. Kazakov “Blue and Green”, not previously considered in scientific literature. Analysis of the system of images and motifs of the story allows us to distinguish two main types of space: explicit, represented by urban and natural loci, and implicit, expressed through the name of the story. Significant loci (Moscow, North) are commented taking into account both the features of the plot and the general idea of the work, and in the context of the writer's creative biography. Particular attention is paid to the title, a commentary is offered to it from the point of view of the poetics of space and the cultural tradition, which makes it possible to interpret the symbolism of color in the title of the story.
